Community Service

At Sheffield Vulcan Rotary the Rotary motto “Service above Self” is key to our commitment to work within the local and national communities. Every year our Community Service initiatives raise substantial amounts for various charities including our own Vulcan Charitable Trust. Through the trust we are able to support small local charities desperate for funds as well as those charities we are currently working with. Here is a snapshot of how we raise money and how we help charities in other ways.

Bucket Collections
Each year we work with local supermarkets to arrange days on which we can collect money for a charity of our choice. We are also often asked by various charities to provide volunteers for one of their collections.

Charity Golf Day
In June each year we work with Sickleholme Golf Club at Bamford to run a Charity Golf Day in which about 30 teams, each of four golfers, compete against each other and then retire to the 19th hole, the Clubhouse. Team fees, a tombola and other activities make the golf day one of our major charity income streams.

Operation Christmas Child
During November and December each year, the club provides many man hours to assist the charity Samaritan’s Purse in running the local Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal. Vulcan Rotary provides a team of three (driver and two mates) each day to bring in thousands of shoeboxes full of gifts from across South and West Yorkshire to the Sheffield Depot for onward transmission to needy children in Africa.

Vulcan Christmas Draw
Local charities are invited to join members of the club in selling Vulcan Christmas Draw Tickets and receive 80% of the income from the tickets they sell. Net income after the charities receive their share goes to the Vulcan Charitable Trust. Most of the prizes are donated by members of the club.

We currently meet on Tuesday evening at 18:30 at The Norfolk Arms on Ringinglow Road
